What is it?

Ever wonder what it is about Starbucks coffee, particularly their vanilla lattes, that taste sooooo good and are far superior to all other kinds? Think about it.

Take Cruisin Coffee for example. Now their coffee has a pretty good taste, but it always seems to be a bit cold even if you stress that you would like it extra hot.

Then there is Woods. Now I really, honestly, love Woods coffee, but the taste is off by a smidgen and they are more expensive then the rest.

Seattle's coffee is getting better, but it's just not quite there.

Tully's, well as my Mom puts it Tully's shouldn't even be called coffee.

And then of course there are the lattes that I attempt to make at home with our little coffee machine. Without fail, each time I try to make a latte I end up drinking off the foam and then dumping the rest down the drain, racing upstairs and brushing my teeth for 5 minutes.

Then there is always your corner bakery that serves coffee. I can't believe I went to La Vie En Rose every other day for a whole year thinking that that was what a latte tasted like and they always forgot the whip cream. Mercy was shown on me and a couple of months ago Starbucks opened just up the street from Logos. When I tasted one of their lattes I couldn't believe what I had been missing. So I ask all of you, what is it exactly that makes Starbucks so perfect?

Kimi, I hate to bring this up - please don't be angry at me, but Lisa is firmly against Starbucks. She doesn't like it at all - she says they don't have many options for flavors (which, truthfully, they don't). Since Spokane has about a dozen little espresso stands, Lisa usually goes to one of them to get her breve - she says they're much better. Since I'm not much of a coffe conneisseur (or however you spell it) I really can't say - coffee all tastes alike to me. Then again - I think it's all the sugar and milk and cream and other flavors that I really like! :-)

Although I like Starbuck's, I have to agree that they don't have many flavors, mainly coconut which is one of my favorites.

I was kind of wondering why you kept on buying those lattes from La Vie En Rose. It seemed like alot of the time you thought it tasted bad, or they forgot to put the whip cream on. But remeber the other day when we were at Starbuck's they also forgot your whip cream:-)!

I'm hurt:( What about all those cappucinos that I have been making you? I wasn't even on the list
:)

It's all about the people who work their...

After going there for a year -- doing my homework -- I feel like everyone there's a friend.

Preach it!

If this whole construction thing doesn't work out, you should look into marketing. =)

Chris,
just for the record,I actually asked for a coconut latte and she said that they don't have coconut. I also think that they would have all their available flavors on the board for people to see; thats what a menu board is for. But maybe you know something about it that I don't :)

Wow, what more can I say after Chris's amazing explanation except that I wholeheartedly agree that Starbuck's is the best coffee around, and I have held that position longer than any of you have even been drinking coffee. The Woods comes in second, they are pretty good. But I will never again get a mocha at those white and red little huts, unless it's a mocha shake...they do that right! As far as flavors go, I'm pretty simple in my drinks...usually mocha, but sometimes caramel or vanilla or almond or irish cream, and they have those, so I am happy with that...And what can be said about just walking through and smelling the coffee...sometimes I don't even have to get a drink...the aroma alone is enough to satisfy that coffee craving.

Carol? are you taking to sniffing coffee????

Lydia, it's a good thing you are in Spokane right now and not here:) Tell Lisa she is wasting her money on coffee that is horrible!!!!!!

Uh, thanks anonymous(i think)

Kelsey, I think you are the only person I know who likes coconut. Okay, so maybe Starbucks forgot once to put on the whip cream, but that was fine cause the latte was perfect:)

I like the people who work there too, especially the people at the Railroad Starbucks and Bakerview.

Chris, you can preach anytime:) Thanks for agreeing with me that Starbucks rocks!

Carol, I know what mean about just smelling the coffee. It's wonderful!

Ok fine :)

I'm not saying that I don't like Starbucks. It's actually my favorite coffee place. Just sometimes I get cravings for mocha shakes and italian sodas... Ü Although Starbucks affogato frappuccinos will always be the best!!

Hmmm, seems like some people are a bit touchy when it comes to coffee! :-) Personally, I don't think coffee is as big of a deal as say . . . Anne of Green Gables (but then again, that's my own personal bandwagon). :-) And I didn't say that I didn't like Starbucks - I think it's just fine (I wouldn't know the difference anyway!). And by the way, Kimi and Kelsey, it's whippED cream, not whip cream (that was starting to bug me!)

Lidster (exasperated sigh) I KNOW it's whipped cream! Sometimes people say things there own little way just cause they like it that way better.

Hey Kimi,
You mean like saying "there" when you really mean THEIR?
Oh, don't mind me...I just love correcting people, even when I don't get things right half of the time. But I agree with you on the "whip" cream=). That's a Sebens trademark!
Sorry, Lydia!

Whoops! That's funny:) Yes, I meant their.
How embarrassing:(

hmmm...

Can I just point out to all interested parties that it usually makes little difference who is making the "coffee" (I'm not talking about lattes, breves or decaf no whip extra hot alfogouchenuthechinos), rather it depends on the kind of coffee being served.

I don't get drip coffee at Woods unless it's Italian or French roast or I'm just desparate. Starbucks always serves their dark (strong) roast if you don't specify what kind of brew...but they always have a medium roast if you want it. Crusin Coffee only serves a mild to medium blend, so I rarely go there.

In case you didn't notice by now, I like my coffee strong.

If you really want to hear my opinion on lattes--Woods lost a couple of employees...who made the best lattes. They have a caramel sauce latte (real caramel, not the syrup junk) that I really like--but I can't find someone who knows how to make it right anymore.

Such a sad world.

That's funny; I just saw your comments now!

Lydia, that does sound like my dream job! Would ya want to come with me?

Mallory, I agree with you 100 percent!

Mark, if you really want extra strong coffee I'll make you some. The last time I made coffee it was thicker than molasses!!!!!!
