Good Advice?

This is what a Junior told me when I was staying in my room all night to study.

"Kimi, it's okay to get C's in college....college is a party!!! I would rather make B's and C's then have no memories."

Should I agree with her and take time to have fun and goof off? Or should I keep on studying like I do?

This is just my opinion, but I think that you should study hard but have lots of fun on your Christmas break. Do your best but make sure you relax and don't stress.

I think you should keep studying. It's not like you're not having any fun. There's a certain satisfaction in getting good grades, and of course there are other benefits as well. Come home and goof off with us. :)

Definitely go for the best Kimi. This world is far too eager to be satisfied with the mediocrity of "status quo." Do everything with all your might and I know that God will bless you with joy there. Carpe diem! :)

From someone who has spent many years in college, with several different blocks of experiences this would be my advice: first of all I understand to some degree where the junior was coming from but I wouldn't totally agree. I haven't ever been one to look at things as "a party" just because I don't think that has a good conentation, especially at a christian school. But, having said that I would say that my best college years have been those where I took classes I enjoyed and I went into them not to get good grades but to enjoy them and learn as much as I could from them. If you go into your classes with enthusiasm you are more likely to have fun and get good grades because the learning comes easier and is less forced.
If you are like most people then there will come some classes that are harder than others and that take a lot more study. By all means apply yourself but don't get so crushed with studying that you forget the joy of learning and the fun of life...even if you have to forgo a night of time with friends to stay in and study, eat something fun for dinner, put on your favorite music or burn your favorite candles, whatever small things you can do for enjoyment even if you aren't going out.
As to grades don't think of them so much as the grades themselves but as a measure of how well you understood the material that you learned. Set you own standered for different classes as you are able and go with it. For example I got a C in the German class that I took but I really didn't need for anything but my own interest so I was fine with it. On the other hand, in my math 99 class I wasn't ok with a C because I needed to really understand the class to be sucessfull in the next Math class. I took the class again and got an A before I felt I was ready to go on. The same holds true for the Chemisty that I am taking now. If I were to get anything lower than an B in the class I would be concerned, not because of the GPA but, because I would be worried that I didn't understand enough to be sucessful in the next class in the series. You are an adult now and your experience at college is your own. You need to set the standered that will get you where you want to go and stick to them but do have some fun along the way. My senior year at WWU I decided I was going to stop worring about my grades and just study and learn for the fun of it and that was a great year. The learning came easier and I enjoyed all my classes a bit more. But do study. Take my word for it the classes that you have worked hard to pass are the ones you will be most proud of. At one time I was able to hardly study and get A's but that is not the case today. I hardly remember any of those classes but the ones I have worked hard for still stick in my mind after quite a few years. sorry that got so long. Hope it was a little helpful.

Oh and one more thing. When all else fails don't forget that C's get degrees! As my chem instructor reminded me last night, "C means average, not looser!"
